The Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) was founded in 1987 and aims to end Canada’s HIV epidemic by leading national strategies to increase prevention, testing, and linkage to care, and to end HIV stigma. Fueled by fundraising, CANFAR supports research, builds awareness and cultivates partnerships. Over the past three decades, CANFAR has invested more than $26 million dollars into innovative HIV/AIDS research projects across the country that have led to tremendous breakthroughs in HIV prevention, testing, treatment, care, and the search for a cure.
Annually, CANFAR reaches thousands of Canadian youth and educators through its national youth awareness program. Since 1993, CANFAR has distributed free educational materials to secondary school teachers to prevent HIV among youth and empower young people to make safer and healthier decisions around their health and well-being. CANFAR’s educational resources have been used in schools in every province and territory. CANFAR’s national youth awareness program continues to build on over 25 years of success in providing youth across the country with free and accessible resources on HIV prevention and education.
Job Summary
Reporting to CANFAR’s Marketing Director, the Marketing Co-ordinator will play an integral role in generating awareness for the organization’s mission, events, activities and more. You’ll assist in the creation and maintenance of campaign and always-on content calendars, audience and landscape research, managing campaign assets and assisting in putting together toolkits of communications and marketing collateral for CANFAR’s network.
This role supports CANFAR’s fundraising and donation platforms, and will assist in conveying strategic key messages across a variety of digital and traditional channels. You’ll get to help lead our social media and newsletter tactics, and assist with strategy and uncovering new opportunities to help us get the message out about ending HIV in Canada.
This role is ideal for college or university students who are interested in pursuing a career in the not-for-profit field, fundraising, or advocacy and awareness for organizations and want to learn through first-hand experience and guided mentorship.
Task and responsibilities
- Contribute to CANFAR’s marketing and communications endeavours
- Brainstorm ideas for content and campaigns
- Manage social media content calendars
- Manage CANFAR’s social media channels, including channels belonging to Sexfluent.ca
- Assist in content creation for social media, website, presentation decks, reports, etc.
- Write copy and use Canva to edit visual templates
- Research support for campaigns and strategic growth
- Stay up-to-date on the Canadian HIV/AIDS landscape and bring new ideas to the table
Eligibility
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Job Summary
Under the supervision of the CEO, the Program Delivery Officer – Business Development will support CANFAR’s events operations planning, national awareness programs, and strategic implementation projects in summer of 2025.
Task and responsibilities
- Event Planning and Management
- Working with the CEO and Development and Stewardship Administrator, support the strategic plan of CANFAR’s fundraising events, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and brand messaging.
- Develop creative event themes and formats to attract sponsors, donors, and participants.
- Support the event management team in executing the event run of show, timelines, and event logistics, ensuring smooth execution and high attendee satisfaction.
- Fundraising and Sponsorship Development
- Identify and cultivate relationships with potential sponsors and donors to support CANFAR’s mission.
- Working with the marketing and development team, support outreach efforts before events, as well as follow-ups and sponsor engagement post-event.
- Collaborate with the fundraising team to integrate event-based revenue targets with overall fundraising goals.
- Community and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community organizations, healthcare professionals, and advocacy groups.
- Partner with CANFAR’s education and outreach teams to promote community involvement and amplify critical messages leading to Pride.
- Represent CANFAR at industry events and network to expand its reach and impact.
- Market Research and Analytics
- Conduct market research to identify trends, audience preferences, and opportunities for engagement.
- Analyze audience data and feedback to refine strategies and enhance marketing and event outcomes.
- Report on key performance indicators and metrics to track the success of campaigns and events.
- Strategic Implementation Project Administration
- Work closely with the VP of National Awareness Programs to schedule meetings and conduct consultations with community partners to implement a mobile health units pilot project in the GTA to increase access to HIV rapid testing in communities with marginalized access to health care services..
- Provide insights and recommendations on the implementation of the pilot project to meet the needs and address the restrictions identified by community-based health organizations in the HIV/AIDS advocacy space.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive execution of campaigns, projects and event strategies.
