BIOGRAPHY
Gabriel Jarquin combines his love of running and passion for giving back to his 2SLGBTQ+ community, as an ambassador for CANFAR. Not just ‘living with HIV’ but THRIVING. Gabriel has completed 9 marathons HIV positive and he shows no signs of slowing down.
As the previous President of the Pride and Remembrance Association – organizing the annual 5k and 3k PRIDE runs to raise money for various beneficiaries – Gabriel and his team raised over 3 million dollars for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Through his advocacy, he has been featured on the cover of Canadian Running and Altitude Sports Magazine, participated in a docu-series for the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon and continues to take strides in the battle against HIV stigma in his capacity as a Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) National Ambassador. Gabriel believes that education will, in turn, break the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS. People need to see and understand what living with HIV looks like because it is a stigma that stands in our way. There are many people not accessing treatment who could be either because they are embarrassed to do so, or because they do not know what treatments are available to them. Both of these can be solved by more education and less stigma.
