  • CANFAR is proud to announce a new partnership with Seneca College’s School of Media. Students from the Public Relations-Corporate Communications program will help to promote this year’s upcoming Bloor Street Entertains gala, which takes place on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

CANFAR has been privileged to have the support for many years of Seneca’s Event Management program, led by Seneca professor and award-winning event industry professional, John MacBride, and we are thrilled to be strengthening our relationship with Seneca, even further for 2018.

    Thank you Seneca College!

School of Media Students Work Together with Industry Partners on Award-Winning Special Event

School of Fashion and School of Media students will have an opportunity to work on “Bloor Street Entertains” this autumn, one of the most luxurious events held in Toronto.

The fundraiser for the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) raised $700,000 last year, and won the Best Event for High Profile Charity Award from the Canadian Event Industries Awards.

Students from the Event Management-Event and Exhibit Design, and Public Relations-Corporate Communications programs will get valuable real-life experience working on this luxury dining event in Toronto’s Yorkville district.

Diners will pay $1,000 a plate for an intimate dinner, followed by an after-party at the nearby Four Seasons Hotel. The dinners will be held at about 15+ venues around the Yorkville area.  Previous venues have included Brooks Brothers, Hugo Boss, Harry Rosen, Gardener Museum, Holt Renfrew, Roots Canada, and Coach.

Now in its 23rd year, the famous event will be held on November 28, just before World AIDS Day. Each location will offer a sumptuous intimate dining experience for about 20 to 40 guests.

Event décor and tablescapes will be planned and executed by Event and Exhibit Design students, and public relations, including social media, will be planned and performed by the Public Relations-Corporate Communications students.

“Our Event Management program has enjoyed over 12 years of collaboration with CANFAR in bringing Bloor Street Entertains to life,” said Professor John Macbride. “This luxury charity event has provided a real-world learning laboratory for our students, while raising millions of dollars for AIDS research. I am delighted that more Seneca programs will be joining our cause this year to help find an end to AIDS.”

Professor Mary Pretotto from the Public Relations-Corporate Communications program specializes in social media, and plans to get her students involved at the beginning of the autumn term, well in advance of the gala.  “Seneca’s collaboration to support the Bloor Street Entertains gala provides our PRCC students with a unique opportunity to contribute to an important cause and see their efforts have immediate impact. Each student involved gains immediate, real-world experience that they can be proud to have been a part of.”
